Southern Supper with Danny Brooks & Lil Miss Debi- August 30, 2018

Danny Brooks has long been referred to as ‘The Real Deal’ and after years of honing his writing and performing skills in Canada, picking up nominations and awards along the way, Brooks is at home in the Texas music scene and traveling throughout the USA. Mixing Southern Soul, Americana, Blues and Gospel, he is recognized as a prolific writer and dynamic live performer, and is constantly on the road. Making Llano Texas his home (just west of Austin), 'Texassippi Soul Man' Danny Brooks & Lil Miss Debi released their second ‘Texas’ studio recording ‘This World Is Not Your Friend’, in January of 2015. The upcoming CD "Get Your Joy On" will be much like the previous CD with a ‘stripped down’ approach. Brooks' music features the duo he has with his wife Lil Miss Debi who sings and plays cajon/percussion while he plays assorted guitars/slide/cigar-box/stomp-board and harp-rack.

Brooks has worked with Legendary producers Jim Dickinson on ‘Its A Southern Thing’ which received high praise from Cub Coda (Smokin’ In The Boy Room/All Music Guide), Johnny Sandlin, (Capricorn Records Producer) on ‘No Easy Way Out’, that featured the legendary Muscle Shoals musicians David Hood, Spooner Oldham, Bonnie Bramlett. Frazer Mohawk (Elektra) and bassist Tim Drummond (Bob Dylan/Neil Young/James Brown) referred to Brooks as the real deal on NorthernBlues recording ‘Saved! The NorthernBlues Gospel Allstars’. On the first two Soulsville recordings, Brooks credits Richard Bell, (Janice Joplin/The Band/Colin Linden) who produced and played keyboards as preparing him for the world stage. It should be noted that Louis X. Erlanger (Mink DeVille guitartist) produced "Texassippi Soul Man".

'Texassippi Soul Man' Danny Brooks & Lil Miss Debi have been touring constantly, promoting and building their reputation throughout North America. As a duo, they make a good racket on assorted guitars/stomp-board/harp-rack/cajon/percussion and singing with all their might, with an Elite 3 way Yorkville PA System. As situations dictate, they perform with both Canadian and American bands. Info on the Canadian and American bands is available on the website. Their duo live show has drawn comparisons to White Stripes/Black Keys/Keb Mo/Allman Bros. and North Mississippi Allstars.

Crucial Music in Studio City California is representing 25 of Brooks’ songs to film/tv/commercials and has successfully placed ‘You’ll Find A Way’, a soul ballad from Rock This House aired on ABC’s TV Show The Fosters, as well as "Caught a Fire" from "Texassippi Soul Man" on ABC's New Girl.

“He’s that special musical jewel that we’ve never really had in Canada ... he’s our Solomon Burke, Otis Redding, Taj Mahal and Ralph Stanley rolled into one performer”. Chris Darton/Maple Blues Magazine

“Listening to Danny Brooks is like driving out of Memphis, TN on a sunny Saturday morning into the Mississippi Delta listening to WDIA. It's one of those things where time stands still. A dash of Eddie Hinton, Solomon Burke, Rev. James Cleveland and Howlin' Wolf are all ingredients in Danny's soulful musical stew'” states Greg Martin of the Kentucky Headhunters.

"Son for a white boy, you sho’ nuff got a sun tan on the inside” Brownie McGhee

Maybe Greg Quill, noted musician and arts writer for the Toronto Star, sums it up the best: 'This is Roots music of great distinction.'
Our special menu for this Southern Supper will include Fried U.S. Delta Farm Raised Catfish Fillets; Collard Greens cooked with ham hock; Black-eyed Peas cooked with bacon; Buttermillk Cornbread Muffins; Sweet Potato Pie; Sweet Iced Tea; & Cafe du Monde Coffee & Chicory.

Southern Supper with Ginger St. James- July 19, 2018

“A sassy and dynamic rockabilly singer, songwriter and guitarist, creating a national buzz with some slightly cheeky music and a captivating charisma fueled by her roaring voice and model beauty.” – Nick Krewen, Toronto Star

With her sultry and powerful voice, her sassy and commanding stage presence, and a repertoire that blends country, rock n’ roll and blues, Ginger St. James packs a lot of entertainment into her 5-foot frame.

Following the tradition of country songbirds like Loretta Lynn, Ginger writes and sings music from real experience; growing up on the family farm, being broke, having fun, and love gone wrong. Her early life in Binbrook, Ontario was heavily influenced by American southern culture, listening to country radio in the barn. Although trips with Dad to the vintage car and rockabilly shows had their impact, her signature song ‘Ramblin’ Country Bumpkin’, proves that this gal is more Hee Haw than Happy Days.

A born entertainer, St. James began writing songs and telling jokes at 3 years old. Inspired by watching musicals, cabaret and listening to Big Band 8 tracks at Nanny and Grandad’s, she enrolled in jazz and tap dance lessons, performed in school plays and spent a summer at the Theatre Aquarius acting camp. She began a successful career as a dancer, actress and model, driven by her natural charisma and passion for the stage.

Feeling the most “in her own skin” expressing herself musically, St. James began writing tongue-in-cheek songs that were entertaining lyrically as well and visually and musically. Focusing on singing and learning guitar licks, she eventually moved to Toronto to break into the local roots music scene. There she was contacted by guitarist Snowheel Slim, who became her songwriting partner and bandleader. St. James moved back to Hamilton where she has established a solid fan base, expanding her reach across Ontario and Eastern Canada with countless major festival, fair, theatre and headline appearances.

She released her first EP, Spank, Sparkle & Growl, which won Alt/Country Recording of the Year at the 2010 Hamilton Music Awards. Independent Canadian label Let’s Riot Music signed St. James in 2012 and released her follow up EP, Tease.

Apart from being a seasoned performer and emerging songwriter, St. James is also a brainy businesswoman and entrepreneur. She recently recorded 3 tunes for the HBO TV series Call Me Fitz. Classic Rock Magazine featured one of her songs ‘Please Mister Driver’ on their 2012 Young, Gifted & Blues compilation. Her “pedal to the metal” band has opened for Rockabilly legends like Robert Gordon, and Sleepy LaBeef, captivating audiences wherever they roam. Hamilton’s View Magazine named her ‘Best Female Artist’ for four consecutive years.

Ginger St. James and her band wrapped up 2014 with nearly 100 live performances behind them. This “chick from the sticks” won’t be taking any time to hang out in the barnyard in 2015 either, as she plans to tour across Canada & into Europe to support her debut full-length album, Diesel & Peas.

* 2015 Hamilton Music Award winner – Female Vocalist of the Year
* View Magazine (Hamilton)’s Best Female Artist (2008-2013)
* 2014 Hamilton Spectator Reader’s Choice Diamond Award: Best Local Musician
* Two songs featured on the HBO Television Series “Call Me Fitz”
* Supports for Robert Gordon, Johnny Reid, The Blasters, Reverend Horton Heat and Sleepy LaBeef

* Alt/Country Recording of the Year at the 2010 Hamilton Music Awards

“If you haven’t seen this Hamilton singing sensation, its really time you did” – Graham Rockingham, The Hamilton Spectator.

“A sultry singer with a surprisingly lithe and powerful voice, razor wit and a vaudevillian sense of showmanship. It’s no put-on.” – Hamilton Magazine

“Diesel & Peas 9/10 – A definite contender for my album of the year and one foot tapping monster of a hit.” – Tony TC Corner, Firebrand Rock Radio UK

“Nothing I like better than someone that can sing and play the blues, with a bit of honky tonk/rockabilly tossed in. Diesel and Peas has it all. Her powerful voice can cover it all. You ain’t seen nothing yet from Ginger St. James. Bravo!” -Ted Michaels, CHML Radio

“She’s saucy. She’s slinky. And she’s sultry… She’s Ginger St. James. And when she sings you know you’re hearing something special” – Ken Wallis, 101.5 The Hawk FM

Southern Supper with Roberta Hunt- August 16, 2018

Roberta Hunt is an exhilarating jazz and blues musician – she is a singer, piano player and songwriter. With her signature rootsy and blues style, one music critic wrote, “Mix big piano with beautiful voice, add some attitude and a lot of charisma. With a penchant for those you-done-me-wrong songs and her musical roots in the jazz and spirituals of New Orleans: a picture of Roberta Hunt starts to emerge…”

A sought-after musician in the Ontario music scene, Roberta’s personal and exuberant approach to performance has now mixed with the swing/Lindy dance scene resulting in sizzling energy between dancers and the band that electrifies the audience. Roberta’s current jazz, blues, funk collaboration Red Hot Ramble has been stirring up great buzz with frequent performances at live music landmarks like The Rex Hotel, Reservoir Lounge, Dovercourt House, and The Lancaster Jazz Club in Kitchener.

In addition to performing solo and with her own bands (Red Hot Ramble, Bertie and the Gents, Roberta Hunt Trio) in Toronto, Roberta has also participated in the French Quarter Festival New Orleans; Davos Sounds Good Festival, Davos; Rapperswil Jazz Festival, Switzerland; Jazz in Mortigliano, Italy as well as local jazz festivals over her career. The New Orleans influence began early in Roberta’s career when she joined the legendary Toronto New Orleans band “Kid Bastien’s Happy Pals” and held the piano post until 2009.

Roberta continues to write her own jazz and blues flavoured songs and is gathering more inspiration and material for a full length CD of her own music to follow her recently released EP – Seen Me.

Southern Supper with Steve Payne & Paul Hobday- August 23, 2018

Steve Payne & Paul Hobday are a powerful roots/blues/boogie duo, playing original compositions, currently appearing throughout Europe and the UK.

Variously described as one of the UK’s most unique and versatile guitarists, Steve Payne is also feted as a talented and non- predictable singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, wordsmith and story-teller.

In 2010, Steve teamed up with Paul Hobday, a Westcountry “gun for hire” guitar player to form a powerful duo who have toured extensively in Europe and Ontario, Canada.

After recording a new studio album, “Raise A Glass” Payne and Hobday are returning to tour the US, both as a duo and also as SP3, with Yardbirds and Nine Below Zero harpman Billy Boy Miskimmin.

He has joined the ranks of the “almost legendary” in the Roots/Blues community, and has shared the stage and bill with many of the greats of the Blues and Folk world, including BB King, Dr John and countless others.

In the early ’90’s he toured Europe extensively and appeared at the legendary Glastonbury Festival. The ’90’s saw Steve begin to move more heavily into slide guitar and jazz styles. After a successful, televised tour of America’s East Coast in 1998. Payne returned to Toronto.

Steve began to focus more on his Roots leanings in the late nineties, leaving the electric side of his music alone, and releasing a succession of acoustic albums. “Six” was released in 2000, followed by “The Kiss” a year later, and “Outlines” in October 2002.

He has toured, recorded and performed extensively on TV and radio in the UK, Europe and North America. A veteran of the club and festival circuits on both continents, Steve Payne has now teamed up with long time musical partner Paul Hobday and harmonica wizard Billyboy Miskimmin to create the trio SP3.

Another harmonious step in a unique and enduring musical career….
