The Mississippi Queen in Mississippi Queen Foods, Music, Southern Supper Series
Considered among the top harp players in the country, singer/songwriter AL LERMAN is a journeyman musician who plays with sizzle and a whole lot of soul. He was founder and leader of the 2X Juno Award winning blues outfit FATHEAD, and along the way built a solid career touring as a solo blues/roots artist, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar and rack harmonica. He also performs under the banner of the AL LERMAN BAND, employing some of the country's finest musicians. His saxophone and harmonica have been heard on countless recordings & live sessions with some of the best in the blues. Lerman's prowess on those instruments has earned him several Maple Blues Award nominations along with rave reviews. A full-time musician for over forty-five years with an impressive catalogue of well crafted songs, Al casts a magical spell on his audience employing ace musicianship with plenty of heartfelt soul.
He has appeared on critically acclaimed recordings by artists such as MORGAN DAVIS, Grammy Award winner WILLIE 'BIG EYES' SMITH, MEL BROWN, RICK FINES, STEVE PAYNE, RITA CHIARELLI, LITTLE MACK SIMMONS and countless others. No matter what, you can always expect some downhome blues that shoot straight from the heart.
As a teenager, Lerman sought out many of his musical heroes, seeking both advice and inspiration. He was fortunate to sit in with blues giants such as MUDDY WATERS, WILLIE DIXON, SUNNYLAND SLIM and more. He became fast friends with Chicago harmonica player CAREY BELL who mentored him on the instrument, and he claims to have seen the great blues duo of SONNY TERRY & BROWNIE McGHEE no less than forty times! Hearing him now, there's no doubt he has learned his lessons well.
