Red Velvet Cupcakes
These cupcakes are a festive favourite amongst Southerners. The combination of red food colouring and cocoa provides a deep, red colour; buttermilk is the key ingredient in keeping moist; and it is then finished with cream cheese icing and red sanding sugar.
Pecan pralines are the signature candy of New Orleans, and have been referred to as ‘discs of pure joy’. They are made using butter, brown sugar, vanilla, milk, and pecans.
This very simple, Southern version is made with ‘packaged’ vanilla wafers, and is a popular favourite dessert for any gathering.
